Results and Discussion

After having collected the raw data, I had organised it in a table. The precision of the experiment was moderate, and no outliers were identified. Below, you will find the raw data table.

Then, using the recorded raw data, I found the average yield in grams: 12.4024 ± 0.0005 grams. It was then used to find the percentage yield—the most important part of the lab. I had started by calculating the theoretical yield: 13.04 grams. The Percentage Yield was calculated to be: 95.11% or 95%, rounded to the nearest percent.

The percentage yield that I had got for the green synthesis of aspirin, using the Mars system for irrdatiation, is surprisingly high—higher than that for the conventional methods. Furthermore, all 12 Principles of Green Chemsitry were referenced, directly or indirectly; this is one thing that makes this experiment so fascinating—not only was yield maximized, but a greener and more sustainable pathway was taken to make the desired product.
